KNOW YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Skincare in the UAE Climate

Three climate factors that make standard skincare advice unreliable here.

☀️
UV RADIATION
Dubai sits at 25°N with clear skies 350+ days a year. UV Index regularly exceeds 10 (Very High) in summer — reaching Extreme (11+) from May to September.
What this means: SPF 50+ is non-negotiable, not optional. Reapply every 2 hours outdoors. Vitamin C in your AM routine adds antioxidant defence against UV-generated free radicals.
❄️
AIR CONDITIONING
Interiors in the UAE are cooled to 18–22°C with relative humidity often below 25%. Your skin loses moisture to the dry air all day, every day — even in "winter".
What this means: Humectants (hyaluronic acid, glycerin) alone can backfire in low-humidity rooms — they pull moisture from your skin instead of the air. Layer with an occlusive on top.
💧
HARD WATER
Dubai tap water is desalinated sea water — high in minerals including calcium, magnesium, and chlorine. This disrupts your skin's acid mantle and can trigger dryness and sensitivity.
What this means: If you're sensitive, try rinsing with filtered water or using micellar water as a second cleanse. A gentle toner with low pH can help restore balance after washing.
ROUTINE BUILDER

Your UAE Skincare Routine

AM and PM routines built for each skin type — with product recommendations and clinical notes.

AM ROUTINE
01
Gentle Cleanser
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
No-foam formula preserves natural oils. Do not over-cleanse — once daily AM is enough for dry skin.
02
Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium
Apply to damp skin. Contains 5 types of HA including super HA for deep hydration.
03
Rich Moisturiser
CeraVe Moisturising Cream
Ceramides + MVE technology release moisture throughout the day. Lock in the HA while skin is still damp.
04
SPF 50+
La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50+
Final step every morning, no exceptions. Reapply every 2h outdoors in UAE.
CLINICAL NOTEFor dry skin in low-humidity AC environments: layer thin-to-thick and never skip the occlusive step. Ceramide moisturisers help repair the lipid barrier that dry skin lacks.
PM ROUTINE
01
Oil or Micellar Cleanser
Bioderma Sensibio H2O
Remove SPF and makeup gently. Micellar water is ideal — no rinsing strips the barrier.
02
Gentle Second Cleanse
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
Light second cleanse if needed — skip if skin feels balanced after micellar.
03
Hyaluronic Acid + Niacinamide
The Ordinary HA 2%+B5
Plump skin overnight. B5 aids barrier repair — key for dry skin sleeping in AC rooms.
04
Repair Cream or Balm
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5
Rich occlusive barrier repair. Optional: use 2-3x weekly as a sleeping mask for intensive repair.
AM ROUTINE
01
Gel Cleanser
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
Gentle enough to not strip — stripping triggers more oil production. Max twice daily.
02
Niacinamide Serum
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Regulates sebum, minimises pores, reduces post-acne marks. Zinc adds extra sebum control.
03
Lightweight Moisturiser
COSRX Snail 96 Mucin
Water-like texture, non-comedogenic. Hydrates without heaviness — oily skin still needs moisture.
04
Lightweight SPF 50+
La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50+
Choose fluid or gel texture. Look for "non-comedogenic" on the label.
CLINICAL NOTEOily skin still needs hydration — dehydration triggers compensatory sebum. Use lightweight water-based products, not oil-free formulas that strip. BHA exfoliation 2-3x weekly at night clears pores.
PM ROUTINE
01
Micellar Cleanser
Bioderma Sensibio H2O
Dissolve SPF and sebum. Thorough removal prevents morning congestion.
02
Gel Cleanser
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
Second cleanse removes remaining residue. Don't skip — pores get congested in UAE heat.
03
BHA Exfoliant (2–3x/week)
Paula's Choice BHA 2%
Salicylic acid penetrates into pores. Apply on clean dry skin, leave 20 min before next step.
04
Light Moisturiser
COSRX Snail 96 Mucin
Skip on BHA nights if feeling congested. Apply on non-BHA nights.
AM ROUTINE
01
Gentle Cleanser
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
Works for both zones — gentle enough for cheeks, effective enough for T-zone.
02
Hyaluronic Acid (all over)
The Ordinary HA 2%+B5
Thin layer all over on damp skin. Hydrates dry cheeks without adding oil to T-zone.
03
Niacinamide (T-zone only)
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc
Spot apply to forehead and nose to control sebum without over-drying cheeks.
04
Moisturiser + SPF 50+
La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50+
Light layer all over. On very hot days, skip additional moisturiser on T-zone.
CLINICAL NOTECombination skin benefits from multi-masking and zone application. Use richer products on cheeks, lighter on T-zone. In UAE summer, the T-zone becomes significantly oilier — adjust textures seasonally.
PM ROUTINE
01
Micellar Water
Bioderma Sensibio H2O
Gentle first cleanse — removes SPF without disrupting either zone.
02
BHA (T-zone, 2–3x/week)
Paula's Choice BHA 2%
Apply only to T-zone on exfoliation nights. Avoid dry cheek areas.
03
Lightweight Moisturiser (all over)
COSRX Snail 96 Mucin
Light layer all over. On non-BHA nights, add a richer cream on cheeks only.
04
Repair Balm (cheeks only, 2x/week)
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5
Spot apply to dry cheek areas for intensive overnight repair.
AM ROUTINE
01
Gentle Cleanser
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
Maintain your balanced skin — don't disrupt it. A non-foaming cleanser preserves barrier function.
02
Vitamin C Serum
Garnier Vitamin C Serum
Brightens and provides antioxidant protection against UAE's intense UV. Apply before SPF.
03
Moisturiser
CeraVe Moisturising Cream
Maintain barrier strength. Normal skin can tolerate both light and medium-weight formulas.
04
SPF 50+
La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50+
The single most important anti-ageing step in the UAE. Apply generously.
CLINICAL NOTENormal skin's goal is maintenance and prevention. The UAE's UV alone can cause significant photoageing — SPF + antioxidants in the AM routine is the most evidence-backed anti-ageing protocol available.
PM ROUTINE
01
Micellar Water
Bioderma Sensibio H2O
Effective first cleanse — removes SPF, pollution, and makeup thoroughly.
02
Gentle Second Cleanse
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
Follow-up cleanse for thorough removal. Optional if Bioderma has done the job.
03
AHA/BHA Exfoliant (1–2x/week)
The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2%
Weekly chemical exfoliation maintains smooth texture and improves product absorption.
04
Moisturiser
CeraVe Moisturising Cream
Night application allows deeper absorption. Use slightly more than your AM amount.
AM ROUTINE
01
Micellar Water (skip rinse if reactive)
Bioderma Sensibio H2O
Specifically formulated for sensitive skin — no rinsing required on reactive mornings.
02
Calming Moisturiser
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5
Panthenol + madecassoside calm irritation. Fragrance-free, tested on reactive skin.
03
Mineral SPF 50+
La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 50+
Choose mineral (zinc oxide/titanium dioxide) formulas which are less reactive than chemical UV filters.
CLINICAL NOTESensitive skin benefits from a minimal routine — fewer products means fewer potential triggers. Introduce one product at a time, patch test for 7 days on the inner arm. Avoid actives (AHA/BHA/retinol) until barrier is stable.
PM ROUTINE
01
Micellar Water
Bioderma Sensibio H2O
Avoid foaming cleansers in the evening if skin is reactive — Sensibio alone is enough.
02
Hyaluronic Acid
The Ordinary HA 2%+B5
Fragrance-free, minimal ingredients. B5 supports barrier repair alongside HA hydration.
03
Barrier Repair Cream
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5
Apply as final occlusive step. On very reactive nights, use as a sleep mask and skip everything else.
